For Gen X and Millennials, the Y2K zeitgeist was ours. They were the days of youth and splendor, and it's been a while now -- how are you doing? Are you y2(o)k?

Texts were 10¢ a pop. We squeezed our eyes shut and wrote entire novels in T9. Lady Di's revenge dress shook our world. We saw the cancellation of the 1994 World Series. Disney was in the midst of its Renaissance. We had hoardish collections of cassettes, CDs, VHS tapes, DVDs. Hours and days were spent perfecting our countless Internet profiles. Sleepless nights were spent on AIM, Yahoo!, and MSN messengers. We approached the massive omelet... ... and managed to take a slice!!! We read books not for self-fulfillment, but for Pizza Hut personal pan pizzas. We jammed our Trapper Keepers into our Jansport backpacks. Our JNCOs slogged when it rained and we never mastered our Heelys. We lived, loved, and drove by the Thomas Guide. Every sleepover necessitated a trip to Blockbuster (or Hollywood Video -- we won't judge). We played Nintendo, removed ladders from swimming pools, sent amusement park guests to their doom, and took excellent care (yes?) of our Neopets and Tamagotchis. We asked Jeeves, then Google. We haunted Internet forums and messaging boards. The dial-up's canticle promised the world at our fingertips.

Then the world ended on January 1, 2000.
